Two doves sit quietly together beneath a soft, cloud-filled sky in this gentle artwork inspired by a deeply personal story. For me, they represent my parents and the unexpected Sunday visits that began after my mother passed away — a tender reminder that love can continue to make itself known in surprising ways.

About Your Canvas

Two doves perch side by side against a soft blue sky filled with drifting clouds. Delicate patterns, vintage-inspired textures, and gentle colors give the image the feeling of an old memory — something familiar, tender, and just a little mysterious.

For me, however, these two birds have a very particular meaning.

The Story Behind the Art

When my mother was still alive in France and I was living in the United States, I called her every Sunday at noon, my time.

It became our ritual.

Our relationship had not always been easy, but over the years we had worked through a great deal and had grown much closer. By the later part of her life, those Sunday conversations had become something very special to me.

Before she died, we even talked about the possibility of her visiting me afterward. I told her she would always be welcome.

About a year after she passed, I was spending a leisurely Sunday morning in bed reading. At some point I looked toward the bay window in my bedroom.

Directly outside the window, perched on a tree branch and looking straight toward me, was a beautiful white dove.

The dove immediately caught my attention because it had special meaning for my mother. She was very attached to her Protestant cross, which had a dove hanging beneath it.

Then I looked at the clock.

It was almost exactly the time when I would normally have called her.

I smiled.

For me, there was no question who had come to visit.

And then something remarkable happened: the dove returned the following Sunday.

And the Sunday after that.

Those visits continued for about two years.

One Sunday, the white dove appeared with another dove sitting beside her on the same branch.

I knew immediately what that meant to me.

She had brought my father with her.

That memory became the heart of this artwork.

Whether someone sees two beautiful doves sharing a quiet moment or something more, Sunday Visitors will always remind me of my parents, of reconciliation, of love, and of the possibility that the people we have loved may sometimes find their own ways of saying hello.
