About Your Canvas

A field of sunflowers stretches toward enormous blue mountains while mist drifts quietly through the valleys beneath a luminous sky.

Through it all runs a shimmering road.

There is something dreamlike about the scene, but for me it is also deeply personal. The sunflowers and glowing road are connected to memories from two very different chapters of my life — both of them ultimately reminding me of beauty, resilience, and moving forward.

The Story Behind the Art

Sunflowers have followed me through different chapters of my life.

Years ago, when I lived in Colorado, I opened a store called SunSeeds, where I sold Sunrider products. When I decorated the store, I created a sunflower theme throughout the space. It was warm, bright, joyful, and full of life.

Many years later, when I was living in France and going through cancer treatment, sunflowers appeared in my life again.

For about a month, I drove nearly an hour each way to receive radiation therapy. The treatments were extremely physically challenging for me, but along that road I passed an enormous field of sunflowers.

Day after day, there they were.

Beautiful. Bright. Alive.

When I later created this piece, that field came back to me.

I made the road shimmer because I did not want the image to be about illness. At the time, I felt deeply that the cancer was already behind me and that the treatment was helping protect the life ahead.

So I made the road beautiful.

For me, it became a road of trust, possibility, and moving forward — a reminder that even during difficult passages, beauty can still appear beside us.

For me, this image is a memory of victory.
