When I started therapy and began doing the deeper work of understanding myself, I discovered something that astounded me. So much of the work I needed to do came down to learning to say one very simple word to myself: Yes!
Although a great deal has changed for women, I think some of those old messages are still hiding inside us. They've been passed down through generations, sometimes so quietly that we don't even recognize them anymore.
We talk a lot about authenticity as though it means being honest, speaking our mind, or not worrying about what other people think. I think it goes much deeper than that. Authenticity is the relationship we have with ourselves.
